Louisville, KY - January 30, 2012 - Advanced Cancer Therapeutics (ACT), a privately held company dedicated to bringing new anti-cancer therapies to market, oday announced that Dr. Gilles Tapolsky, ACT’s Chief Scientific Officer, has been selected to present at the World Cancer Metabolism Summit to be held February 1 – February 2, 2012 in Washington, D.C.

The presentation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 3:30pm – 4:00pm ET. Dr. Tapolsky will present “Preclinical Characterization of Antagonists of 6-Phosphofructo-2-Kinase That Suppress Glucose Metabolism and Tumor Growth.”

ACT is developing inhibitors of glycolysis targeting 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-biphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3), a cancer metabolism target identified as essential for cancer cell growth and licensed by ACT from theJames Graham Brown Cancer Center

High glucose consumption is observed in most cancers. PFKFB3 is the enzyme involved in the first irreversible step of glycolysis, and has been validated as a relevant cancer metabolism target. Inhibitors of the PFKFB3 block glucose uptake and inhibit tumor growth.
